A Day of Pampering with No Guilt
Ask yourself: When was the last time you pampered yourself? There’s a good chance when you did you kept it to a minimum and probably felt guilty for taking up too much time, or spending too much money on yourself. Well, not today – this is the day to be sassy and put yourself first, so a day of pampering is perfect.
People are quick to assume a day at the spa is the way to pamper yourself but that may not be everyone’s ideal. Give thought to what makes you feel pampered, and go all in on it.
Yes, You Deserve That Shopping Spree
And speaking of pampering yourself, why not consider a shopping day? This is the day to “treat yourself”, and if a new outfit or wardrobe is needed, this is the day to do it. Even if it’s just a pair of trendy shoes or a cute new bag – it’s about reminding yourself you’re worth it and you deserve it.
Register to Vote – Make Sure Your Voice Is Heard
A great way to speak your mind and let your voice be heard is to vote. If you haven’t yet registered to vote, there’s no time like the present. You want to be sure that when the next election takes place nothing is holding you back from heading to the polls.
Turn a Blind Eye to Rude Behavior
While you may assume National Be Nasty Day should be a day you’re nasty to people, it’s actually about rising above the pettiness and rudeness. On this day, try turning a blind eye to rude behavior. By refusing to give it attention and space, you take control of the situation, thereby asserting yourself. If you refuse to let words and actions hurt you then you are stronger than any one person.
Stick Up for Other People
Finding the strength to stand up for yourself and demand you be treated with respect is great, but not everyone can do that. Some people find it much more difficult, if not impossible, to stand their own ground. If you see someone being taken advantage of or being stepped on, there’s no need to hold back. You can stand up for them and help them see their worth. Helping someone else to be assertive is wonderfully rewarding for both parties.
The Nasty Woman Movement Is Always Recruiting
It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman, the Nasty Woman movement is always recruiting. Look into local organizations that could use your help with events and fundraising. While this isn’t technically “Be Nasty Day”, the Nasty Woman movement embraces many of the same beliefs, making them incredibly similar.
If you want to learn more about the Nasty Woman movement and its origins, there are plenty of books and reading material.
Speak Your Mind – Let the Sass Out
National Be Nasty Day can also be the day you speak your mind with a touch of sass. This doesn’t mean you are rude to people, it just means you listen to your inner monologue and your gut, and you don’t shy away from what you want.
All too often people fall into the trap of being a “yes” person. Be Nasty Day can be that one time of year you’re not afraid to say “no”. Standing up for yourself is an incredibly liberating experience.
Re-examine Boundaries – a Time for Self-Reflection
While you’re busy speaking your mind, this can be a time for quiet reflection too. Re-examine the boundaries you’ve placed in your life and ask if they are still meeting your needs. Boundaries are important for everyone, but they can change over time. Boundaries are meant to protect your emotional and physical well-being and should always be prioritized.
Boundaries should be applied to friendships, your relationships with a partner, work dynamics, and more. When you create boundaries you show people how you expect to be treated by them.
Use “I” Statements All Day Long
Finally, make it a rule that you use “I” statements all day long this National Be Nasty Day. It will probably be hard at first, but once you get the hang of it there’s no turning back. Using “I” statements forces you to constantly tap into how you feel and what you want, not worrying about what others may think.
