10 Surprising Confessions Why People Really Avoid Exercising!

Working out sounds great, but getting the motivation to do so can be hard to come by. Several people recently shared what some of the reasons are they end up not working out – and it can be for a wide range of reasons.

1. Timing Is Never Right

One says it is only possible to work out at a time divisible by five. On a lazy morning, once the clock hits 5:17, they must wait till 5:20, but they never seem to get it right. Somehow, they’re always late.

2. The Skinny Condition

Another commenter shares that they have a condition that no one believes. They’ve been within their ideal weight for over forty years. Their routine includes no structured workout; they eat whatever they want. They wish they could bottle this condition and sell it.

3. It’s Boring

Several thread contributors think working out is boring. Repetitive workouts like weight routines and using the treadmill are tedious. They prefer hiking but also struggle to get motivation for it.

4. Exercise Is Dull

One says they find exercise dull as a dishwasher. They’ve always hated sports since they have zero coordination and have been ridiculed for it their whole life.

Even after months of regular exercise, they always feel depressed and tired after exercising. Working out feels like a chore for them. The high school gym was an awful experience; they relive it every time they work out.

5. Rewards Take Time

For people with an immediate reward system, working out may be challenging. A user compares working out with training a dog. The reward needs to be immediate; otherwise, there’s a disconnect between action and reward.

They do not feel great after a workout; they only get a vague sense of accomplishment, which is on the same level as emptying the dishwasher. Building a habit of it is impossible.

6. Gym Class Was Horrible

Numerous people agree that their hate relationship with workouts began in gym class. One recalls how their gym teacher said glasses weren’t allowed during class. They couldn’t see anything without them and got so many balls to the face.

Team sports were challenging as they were always chosen last and had no idea what they were doing. It’s been twenty years since this, and they’re still baffled by the experience.

7. The After-Workout High Is a Myth

Have you heard of the workout high? Someone states that working out makes them miserable. They experience headaches, nausea, and fatigue after a session. They don’t experience a high. While working out, they have to distract themselves using music, and they feel like it stops them from doing the exercise right.

Even though they understand that adult sports just for fun exist, it’s hard to find something that fits their schedule. They’d started going to yoga classes several times a week, but the studio cut down the classes due to Covod. All studios around their work area provide classes in the middle of their workday.

8. Breathlessness Is Not Fun

Feeling out of breath is horrible. An asthmatic user shares that for the longest time, they couldn’t understand how anyone could like working out.

They understood why they felt breathless when they found out they had asthma. However, even after taking medication, they didn’t like the feeling. They try to eat healthily and have an active job, but they don’t do anything extra.

9. Gym Is Scary

A plus-size woman says they are too afraid to enter a gym due to their weight. It may sound silly, but they are too self-conscious. She let herself go during the lockdown and can’t find the motivation to go to the gym.

Once they look at their old photos where they were healthier, they get in their head about it. They’ve had to cancel three gym memberships over the past few years since they always waste them.

10. Cancer Sucks

Finally, a user with incurable cancer says they want to live their way. They went to a clinic, and the nurse said that they would stop them from eating carbs to get them off the meds in the future. After telling the nurse they had no future, she allowed them to eat and drink what they wanted. So far, they love their life.
